2018 is just around the corner and chances are many of you will be starting to think about your resolutions. Some of you will be vowing to give up the booze; others will be joining the gym or pledging to eat healthy – all fantastic aims indeed. But you know what would be even better to commit to making 2018 the year when you take self-care more seriously.
Caring for oneself body and mind, each and every day, is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and it will absolutely improve your way of life. With that in mind, here are some serious-self care habits you might want to consider for the New Year:
Make Time for Reflection
As one year comes to an end and another starts, it is a natural time for reflection; the perfect time to look back on your mistakes and victories and see what you can learn from them. But, you shouldn’t do this only at the turn of the calendar – you should continue to reflect and review weekly to give you more perspective on your life and to help you make improved choices throughout the year.
Learn to Let Go
Holding on to negative emotions will only hold you back and make you feel bad, mad, stressed or even depressed all the time. Learning how to let things go, perhaps by practising meditation via the Calm app or putting yourself through therapy is a very effective way of gaining better mental well-being. It’s not easy, but it can be transformative.
Download a Doctor
If you’re one of those people who never get to the doctor’s surgery, even though you really should, simply because you have too much going on in your life and you can never seem to make the time, get yourself an Online Dr App. Do this, and you’ll always be able to see a doctor within minutes at your convenience for a better standard of health all around.
Sort Your Sleep Schedule
Sorting out your sleep schedule so that you get between 6 and 8 hours a night – whatever leaves you feeling most refreshed- almost every night might be difficult at first, but it is important because having a regular sleep cycle just makes you feel better; the fatigue goes away, and you feel great.
Clean Up Your Diet
Standard diet-based New year’s resolutions tend to centre around extreme fad diets that are sure to fail. You don’t want to make a resolution like that, but if you want to take good care of yourself, you should pledge to eat more of the good stuff and less of the junk food. Allow yourself the occasional treat, but aim to eat healthy whole foods most of the time.
You don’t have to sign up to the gym or commit to running a 5K every morning, but making an effort to sweat for at least 20-30 minutes each day of the new year will make you feel like a new woman in mind, body and spirit. So give it a try.
How will you be stepping up your self-care regime in 2018?
